So by now you know about the conniption fit that Christian Bale threw at one of the crew members on the set of the new terminator movie.(Link contains profanity!) The worst thing about this temper tantrum isn't necessarily the profanity (which puts chief Gordon Ramsey to shame),but rather the people kissing his ass while he's doing it. Furthermore, he extends his self-indulgent tirade to other members of the crew who are simply trying to mediate the situation. Bottom line; it was embarrassing to everyone on set, and he deserves to be humiliated for it.
I understand that having crew members wandering around in an actors line of sight can be distracting (in this case, it was the director of photography). But he was doing a scene from a fluff ball movie about scary robots. It wasn't exactly a soliloquy from Hamlet for God's sake. We've all been frustrated by incompetence at one point in our lives, but at lease we react like human beings. That being said, I'd be more inclined to give him a pass on this if there weren't a record of him acting in a similarly abusive manner.
It all comes down to the attitude that actors have towards anyone below them (which is everyone.) It doesn't even cross their mind that the crew is under just as much pressure (or higher) than the actors, and unlike the "talent" the crew members have nobody mopping their brows or bringing them organic cranberry nectar cooled with ice cubes chipped off a glacier from Greenland.
Also, I don't buy into the whole creative a-hole genius meme, sorry. There are plenty of talented actors out there that don't direct infantile rage towards their underlings. Would you expect this kind of public narcissistic outburst from Tom Hanks or Morgan Freeman?
